Nymphs – Constant Montald (1862-1944)
Once upon a time three lovely nymphs settled at three different corners of the Mediterranean Sea.
These nymphs had been on a journey to the most beautiful places on the earth, places of luxuriant gardens blooming with flowers of many colours and with sweet, succulent fruits.
From all of these places the nymphs gathered armfuls of the earth that had produced such abundant lush riches.
On their way home they suddenly saw a stretch of perfect sea, shining under a blue sky as a jewel will glister in the sun. Mesmerised, they moved closer.
So inspired were they by the beauty of this sea, they moved to three different corners of it and there, in a triangle, deposited their handfuls of soil.
That soil moved, of its own, to join together in a triangular land of richness.
That soil is still there today.
And that is why the ancient name of Sicily is Trinacria
