The Vernal Equinox!
I loved the sound of that when I was a child. It was something to do with the Church, I thought, but it meant longer days spent playing and a day trip to Ferntree Gully to see the new life in the fern forest and to hear the bellbirds.
Now that I know what it is, a day to mark a threshold, I rejoice when it comes around.
My bush lemon tree (bane of my life) is suddenly covered with tiny, pinky, polleny flowers. And there’s a nest in it!
Myron Lysenko sums it up succintly
spring sunshine
a turtledove in her nest
on the lemon tree
These are the things I’m thankful for. A Spring afternoon, a bird in a nest and an artist to encapsulate all of it.
