Focus on Food

Afer spending years cooking for other people, catering to picky children, generally hanging over a hot stove assailed by smells of food, I sort of lost interest in eating much of it myself. Cigarettes do nothing to improve the palate either. But just this last year I have rediscovered a genuine liking for food.

I no longer have periodic bursts of craving for rare red rump or an avid lust for fatty lamb. My body, I suppose, has different needs now. I can dream of kumquat with yoghurt and wake up with a desire for cheese and quince paste on ciabbata. Perhaps I need more calcium?

I started rambling about various foods in a journal at Cafe Porridge. She’s another side of me, the one who takes after my Great-Aunts of Irish Mentality. She likes to cook.

Then in the interest of my food longings and the reawakened cooking spirit, I also put some lenses together on my food likes. In the interest, also, of a few dollars each month from squidoo earnings while I declare my passion for foodstuffs.

My favourite this month is Recipes from Ancient Rome

I love Quince!
I love Cheese!
I love Yoghurt!
I love Mushrooms!
I love Olives!
I love Rhubarb!
I love Honey!
I love Butternuts!
